Don't forget to set your clocks tonight! One year we forgot and we got to church as it was getting over!
This morning the scan did not find a clot, so that was good news. The radiology tech said it would probably just take time for the leg to heal. Not much else happened today. The dogs and I have been taking it easy. Made an early supper and watched movies. K-State lost to KU tonight. My alma mater is K-State, as is three of my siblings and my daughter. My son on the other hand went to KU and is not in KU med school. I guess I am happy as long as one of the Kansas teams gets to go on. Michelle is walking more and more on her splint. The splint makes that leg just a bit longer than the other one, but even when she was on three legs she did not slow down much. We need to get things cleaned out of the kitchen tomorrow, as they come Monday for the ceiling replacement. It will be so fun with me home on spring break! NOT!!! I need to go get Meri from Pam's house. Not sure if she is still in heat or not. I guess I should have time to go get her this week! March 12, 2010 Happy Birthday Dana!
Spring break began with a trip to the doctor's office. She put me on plavix and I have an appointment for tomorrow morning at 8 to have some kind of scan on my leg. I don't even get to sleep in. The hospital is 1/2 hour away, so I actually have to leave earlier than usual.
Talked to Dana briefly. Looks like we will be going down in a couple of weeks. Murphy is mostly shaved down. Need to do his legs and face. Ri also needs legs and face done too. Gracie the poodle is next. I tried to call the state today and they said I would get a call back. Nope, of course they did not call back. Good thing I wasn't waiting around all day for her call. I brought home PDC things to work on over break. I have to get together all of the policies for us to discuss at our next meeting. They have just been in the minutes for YEARS. We would have to look through the minutes to see what policy was made or what had been done previously. Hopefully once they are all on a sheet or two they will be more usable. Drizzle all day. That means muddy dogs, but they do think they need to go out even when it is nasty out. Muddy dogs means muddy floor. I guess I should expect the mud with spring. Winter was muddy and now spring is muddier. I need to make sure to set my alarm for 1/2 hour earlier. Good luck to Jamie and Nelda at the dog show this weekend. I am sure your girls will do well! I know it is technically Friday, but I am just ending my Thursday.
Michelle is doing GREAT! We can't even tell that she had a brush with death last night. She is acting and moving like her old self. We know that God was looking out for her and us. She has been with us so long and is such a great girl. I feel safer with her around, even though she weighs only 15 pounds. She is definitely the alpha dog, even over the 80+ pound Emma. Not much homework coming in on Friday. We watched the end of Where the Red Fern Grows to wrap up a novel study we have done. Each year I get teary eyed when we read about the dogs dying. You would think after almost 10 years, I would be able to read/hear it with dry eyes. If you have never read it, it is a great book. My boys with late work are almost caught up. Two of them only have one late paper each now. WAY down from 15 papers on Monday. One boy has been gone, so he has not had as much time to catch up, plus now he has all of the work from the days he was gone. Larissa fits in so well with my gang. Twice I have let her mingle with the group. She can then go in and out the doggie door. Not sure, but this morning may have been her first snow. Yep, woke up to the white stuff this am. I was so disappointed to see it. It is gone tonight, but with the drizzle all day, the roads are so muddy. I think about washing the car when I am in town, but then figure one trip home and no one will be able to tell I had done anything. Spring break starts tomorrow at 3:40. I am sure the week will fly by and I won't get nearly everything done that I would like to get done. 1st is to get my bedroom back together. I have washed a lot of the clothing that has been hanging and sitting around in the dresser. It is on the washer and dryer since I can't get to dresser. I also want to clip most of the dogs down. Murphy is next on my list. I almost shaved him tonight. I had to run to Wal-Mart tonight. We were out of basics and it was getting hard to make supper. I kept putting if off, as I rush home after school to wait for the state inspector since I missed her last week. Still waiting. I bet she comes tomorrow since I have a doctor's appointment after school. Tomorrow is my baby's birthday. She will be 24. We won't get to see her and not sure when she and Charlie have off, so we can go see them. Not as easy to run to Wichita as it was to Manhattan. It will be worse once they move even farther away. I had better start getting everyone ready for bed. Don't want to start spring break off exhausted! March 10, 2010
Michelle scared us to death tonight. Dave got home and noticed a plyboard was sticking out of the shed where he had them leaned against one of the sides. They are approxiamately 1/2 inch boards left over from reroofing the garage. He went and slide it back in and laid it down on the others. When he did that he heard something like a bird. He noticed tha Michelle was not around and came and asked me where she was. I told him outside. We immediately went back and started lifting the sheets of plywood one by one, there were 5 of them. Michelle somehow had knocked them over on herself. Maybe Emma had helped, but anyway Michelle was under 5 sheets of plywood. She could not use her back legs when she first came out, so I called the vet and said we were on the way. It was about 6:30. Michelle laid in my lap the whole way and did not hardly move. This is so unlike her. She LOVES car rides and likes to look out and breath the air from the vents. I just knew she was breathing her last breaths as I caressed her and told her we were going to get her help. The vet was there and waiting on us when we got there. He looked her over and could not find anything wrong, other than she had deficated on herself. He did give her a pain shot and we can give her pain pills as needed. She is walking okay, the vet thinks she was just numb from being under the boards when I called him. Michelle has been resting since we got home. I have given her a few extra treats and told her how much we love her and how much she scared us.
The rest of the gang is doing well. Larissa is becoming one of the gang very quickly. She is resting right now on the couch with Dave and Maggie. Michelle and Murphy are at my feet and Rishona is laying next to me in the recliner. My calf is bothering me again. I hope the doctor doesn't think it is anything too serious on Friday when I go. At the faculty meeting tonight they talked about a National curriculum. They are a bit disappointed in our Reading State Assessment tests, but we have done phenominally well in the past. We are hoping that Math is better in a couple of weeks. Not sure that is going to happen since we have to take them on-line vs. paper and pencil tests. Thursday.... Friday..... SPRING BREAK! March 9, 2010Larissa is pregnant! The vet did an ultrasound tonight during her exam. March 7, 2010
This weekend has flown by. Spring break begins Friday at 3:40!!!!
Holly is back home in Nebraska now. Hopefully Tobi did his job well. Larissa is settling in. She would wander around on the upstairs' landing. At first I did not think she knew how to do steps, so I helped her come down the 4 steps we have. Nope, back up she went. She feels more comfortable up there. When we left to take Holly back, Larissa went back into her expen in the bedroom. Door is open though, so she can hear the noises of our house. This evening she spent time in my lap and next to me in the recliner. I think she got to warm though and wanted down, but yet was not happy on the floor and wanted back up. We did the up and down thing several times. I decided that she needed to go back to her expen to rest and cool off. She is drinking very well. Not sure how much she is use to eating, but she is at least eating some. She seems to really like bully sticks to chew on. Can't wait for the appointment on Tuesday to see what the vet says. Not much else new. We did find Dereck the 1:87 Mark Martin Kellogg's car. Need to still find him the 1:87 GoDaddy car though. I am sure as the year go on, it will show up in the stores around here. We did not get lights for the kitchen, so that search is still on. Tried to get ahold of Dana again. Phone must have been off. I will try to call her again before going to bed here in a bit. 5 days of school and then spring break! March 6, 2010Larissa is home! She traveled very well, did not get car sick at all. She was snuggling in my lap before the trip was over. I set up an expen in my bedroom for her. It is quieter and away from the rest of the dogs. She did meet Rishona and Murphy today, but the rest of the gang will wait. I don't want her to be overwhelmed. March 5, 2010
Students until 12:10. Lunch out at one of the teacher's today, then back to school to work on the grades. Grades are finished. One nine weeks to go, with Spring Break in there too.
The vet did not take Michelle's splint off tonight. He thought it looked like it was holding up well enough. Rishona went with us too and got a booster. Poor Shoni stresses out so bad in the car. It is hard to believe that she traveled with me to shows. It was so nice out tonight that after we got back from the vet's I went to the back yard to pick up toys that have been accumulating. The noncement part is still pretty soft. I think I might see if an expen will be long enough to block the grassy area off. Maybe we can try to grow some of the grass back that has been lost this winter between the snow, mud and paws. Hope to finish Larissa's ped tonight. Maybe I can get to the others that aren't on here too. I also need to print pictures off for a couple of health booklets that don't have pictures yet. Andi, Maggie, Mira, Levi, and Essie. Tomorrow morning we go to KC to meet the transporter with Larissa!!! I can't wait!!! We have an appointment on Tuesday after school with the vet. Ivette is going to go with us too for her booster. March 4, 2010
The vocal clinician today was great with the students. The concert sounded super! I thought the day would be long, but it wasn't too bad. I was able to get most of my papers graded too. I just have spelling tests to grade. Then all the grades have to be put onto the computer tomorrow afternoon. Only one nine weeks left after tomorrow. The school year has flown by very quickly. I have so many students that have late papers. They and their parents don't seem to care about the zeros that they are getting.
Larissa gets here on Saturday! We have to meet the transporter in the morning. I can't wait to hold her in my arms! My new baby is coming home! Michelle goes in tomorrow to have her leg checked out. Her splint wrap is getting pretty dirty and she has chewed on the top part of it. I am going to try to remember to call the vets' to see if I can bring in Rishona for vaccinations. I need to get my tires fixed tomorrow. I have two the keep losing air. One of them loses air rapidly. I have to air it up twice a day. Anyone have any experience with boys that continue to mark after being neutered? One of my adoptive parents is dealing with this right now. Is there any tricks to try to get him to quit or is it too much of a habit now? The State stopped by yesterday for my inspection. I had a meeting after school, so I was not here. Not sure if they will be back soon or how long until they return. I have everything ready for whenever they come. They have not ever sited me for anything. And before anyone criticizes about being inspected, so I must be a puppy mill. . . in Kansas if you have more than 2 litters a year you have to have a license and be inspected. Since I have 4-5 litters each year that puts me as a hobby breeder and requires a license, inspections, paperwork, and rules to follow. The rules are nothing hard. Covered food containers, health plan completed with vet, names dates and contact info for each adoptee, health records for each dog, identification for each dog. etc. All things I do already anyway. I was glad they missed me last night. I had a migraine. I did not eat or make supper for Dave. I took Advil and went to bed. Fitful rest until the Advil worked, but the dark and quiet seem to help too. It has been awhile since I took any pictures (New York??). Maybe with Larissa coming, I can take some this weekend. I really want to get my bedroom back together, so we can be back in there at night instead of the basement. I am going to go through my clothes and only put things I wear back into my closet. I hope that give me a bit more room. March 2, 2010
M-Pact performed for the schools today. Great group! They are giving a free concert tonight. Thanks to Wayne and the Arts Coucil for bringing them here.
Got home and Meri is coming into heat a whole month early. Called Pam, as I want to breed her to Vinnie again. I would like to get a girl just like Aster (now called Alley). I will be taking her down whenever Dave gets home from work. I thought he was here about an hour ago and got supper ready. I will have to heat his up, as I am sure it is now cold. Meri, Murphy, Rishona and I shared some carrots tonight. They really liked them. I know Meri LOVES apples too. Rishona prefers oranges, I think. Murphy just wants whatever everyone else is having, so he won't miss out on anything. Sometimes he just takes whatever and then leaves it somewhere else. It is getting pretty dark, so Dave should be coming soon. I don't know how they load trucks in the dark at the quarry? Still no word on Larissa. I started working on the ped for the website today. I think I have all of the names in, now I need to get them put in the right spots. I think I also need to get a ped for Mira on here too. That one should be easy as all of the names should be on here already. Michelle is still doing well. She spent most of tonight outside enjoying our warmer weather. She does love it outside! Well, Dave just drove up, so I had better go get his supper heated back up. |
