Pat, good idea! These jeans were a gift from my daugher. She manages a Buckle, so I am sure these are expensive jeans.
Today, I got the trailer washed, inside and out! Shipped off my Western saddle. Still don't have things ready for garage sale and we will be setting up tomorrow! Sale is Friday and Saturday. A lady from Missouri is suppose to be coming up to see horses and stuff. I thought it was today, but she called this morning. She wants to come Friday. Gloria and Ron are suppose to be in Marysville this weekend too. They are traveling home from a wedding. I will get to see two of my babies, Ringo and Bo! This computer is acting up AGAIN!!!! I don't have to click and it chooses things for me. Maybe it knows better than I do what I am suppose to do!? Supplemented Ri's babies this morning. I probably will tonight, but I need to run to town and get a can of goat's milk. I will pick up two, so I have an upopened one NEXT time I want to make formula again. Presley is great at going up the stairs, He just can't go down them yet. Not sure how he can even manage to go up them as they are much taller than he is. As I look around the room the dogs are all sleeping, except Ivette. She is standing there looking at me with her tail wagging. She is such a silly girl. Loves to gives kisses, even if you really don't want any! July 27, 2010
As much as I got done yesterday, it seemed nothing went right today. Just a few loads of laundry.
I went to town to run errands and borrow Dad's truck. Mom and Dad were not home, so I called to see if I could use the truck. I then had to call my brother to come help remove the 5th wheel hitch and put in the gooseneck hitch into Dad's truck. While waiting, I unhooked the 5th wheel hitch and moved it to the end of the bed. I went and brought the gooseneck hitch to the rear of the truck. I got a huge grease mark on my best jeans! Talked a bit to my brother. The folks got home, so had to talk to them too. Went by Wal-Mart on the way home to get things for a get together. Decided I did not have enough time to make a strawberry pie, so I bought a frozen pie. Once home, I tried to hook up the horse trailer to move it. Could not get it because of the way it was parked close to a fence post. Put jeans in washer to try to get grease off. Went to get together with coworkers. Came back and Dave got the truck hooked up for me and moved to the driveway. Jeans still have a grease spot. Dogs are all doing great. May have another litter to announce next week. I need to get pictures of Ri's babies on here. They seem to be doing well for the rough start they had. July 26, 2010
Pretty good day today. House cleaned, lots of horse things washed and/or pulled out to show people.
I have a few more items I want to wash. I never did get to the dog laundry today. Good thing I have several beds and lots of toys! The puppies prefer you to change the toys up anyway. I think they get bored of the same toys all the time. Presley got to "play" with the big dogs today. No one hurt him or even tried. I am so protective of him, that he has had to wait longer than most puppies in order to mingle with the rest of the gang. His expen has been in the kitchen where he can be right next to them, but they had never been together without the benefit of the barrier between them. Tomorrow I would like to finish the horse and dog laundry. Get Dad's truck to move the trailer, vacuum out the trailer and hopefully wash the inside of it too. Test the AC on the trailer. Clean a saddle or two, get all saddles back into their bags. (I think Wednesday I will be shipping one of the saddles off). Garage sale stuff needs to get boxed up and I want to put it into the trailer. It will be easier to take it all to town if it is in the trailer. July 25, 2010
It is hot again. Feed the puppies this morning at 10, At 12:30 I let Ri go in and lay with them. She is as happy as a clam with all three latched on. I will check on them in about an hour to see if they are getting satisfied or if I need to supplement them, until Ri's milk comes in again. Also will give Ri a bit of Oxytocin to help bring in milk.
Moving panels around so the horses can eat the grass around the buildings. We hate to go get a big bale, because we have people that sound interested. They just need to find the time to get here. We don't want to be stuck with an almost whole bale rotting out there. We have so much horse stuff we accumulated through the years, I bet we never get rid of it all. I need to get more things boxed up for the garage sale. Maybe it will be more doable if Ri is better and I don't have to feed puppies every couple hours. July 24, 2010Ri is eating more on her own now. Not normal quantities, but at least she is eating without me having to scoop it up on my finger and feed her. She really wants to be with her puppies, poor girl. If all goes well she can be with them tomorrow afternoon. July 24, 2010
Ri is acting a bit perkier. I would let her in with her babies after I fed them last night during her feedings. This way she could still bond with them and they could know her. She would lick and lick and lick. I guess my cleaning after each feeding does not meet her standards! LOL
I am going to wait and see if I need to hook her back up to the IV. She ate some AD and some egg this morning. Big step since I did not have to spoon her each bite. Of course she will still get her antibiotic. Hopefully tomorrow she will be up to the puppies nursing again. We hope that the illness and lack of nursing won't effect her milk supply too much. I realize that I will need to supplement at first, but hopefully it will all come back. Pat, make sure to use STICKY tape. Cheap masking or duct tape usually sticks the best. Keep at it, most ears will stay up eventually. July 23, 2010
Rishona update.
Rishona had to have surgery yesterday. Her temp was back up and she was not acting much better. She was not eating and not drinking, and when she would eat it would come back up. The vet examined her again and said she wanted to open her up. I told her to just go ahead and spay her. I thought it would be easier on her than trying to find what was wrong with the uterus. When they got in there it was evident that the uterus had ruptured. She had two holes that were causing the uterus to die. Rishona comes home with us last night and we watch the IV. She is now at least acting better and is able to eat a bit and keep it down. She is still a sick dog and cannot nurse her babies until at least Sunday. I am trying to get the horse trailer dressing room cleaned out today in between feedings. I also need to take some new pictures of the horses for a lady that is interested. Today the reality of the horses being gone hit me. I have had horses for 35 years. I know I haven't done much other than pet and talk to the boys in the last few years, but the option was always there. I don't know why it makes me so sad, as these two are actually even Dana's and not mine. Well, it is time for the noon feeding, then I will have almost two hours to try to get something done. July 21, 2010
Thanks Pat! Ri had two girls and one boy.
She is doing better, but still not "normal" I took her to the vet yesterday morning and they put in an IV since she is not eating much mostly drinking. The antibiotic may be making her vomit too, but it is usually a couple of hours after I give her the antibiotic that she vomits. The IV was a new experience. They sent me home with heparin and instructions on how to remove the IV line and cap the catheter and then restart the IV. I panicked a bit yesterday when trying to unhook the IV. I could not get it off and was afraid to pull too hard incase I took the needle out of her leg. Called vet and they talked me through it. I did much better today reattaching the IV and then taking it off again. The puppies are doing well so far, thank goodness! As are the older puppies that are here. Larissa's and Andi's are completely weaned of course. Maggie's two still need mama, but are eating solids. I leave hard food in their pen and give them soft food twice a day. Lee and TeTe seem to know their names and are both able to go in and out the doggie door. TeTe will stand outside and cry sometimes, but a little encouragement has her coming right through now. I can't remember if I have announced that Pam is going to look for Cami a home. She is a cutie and looks to be breeding quality right now. She is a Murphy daughter and was in a litter of three. There are pictures on my puppies' page. We have a teachers' meeting at 4 to discuss negotiations, so I got to run for now. July 19, 2010
This has been a long day.
Rishona had her puppies yesterday. First one around 11:15 am and last one around 4 pm. This morning she was not with her puppies. I did not thing too much about it as she likes to sleep under the bed. I went and let everyone out, started feeding and watering and picking up. After about a half hour I went back upstairs and Ri was still not with her pups and they were crying. I looked under the bed and she was laying out flat. I dug her out and put her with the put and she just stood there, plus she felt warm. We immediately left for the vet, back door still open. I called the vet's office on the way and said I had a sick girl that had just given birth and would be there in 15 minutes. They were just opening and I did not want the vets to all go out on calls. When I got to the vets' they took her temp and it was 106! She immediately got antibiotic shots and a pain reliever/fever reducer. They did an ultra sound and palpated her. They could not see a puppy, but could see something. Oxytocin shot. Another ultrasound and more palpations. She had one placenta still in her. I blame myself because her last puppy came out not moving or breathing. I took the puppy and immediately started working with it. Rishona was licking and chewing, so I thought she had gotten the placenta, but I did not look and check for sure. She must have just been cleaning herself. So all day I have been feeding 3 babies every two hours, checking on her, offering water and food. Taking her temperature and making sure the ice packs were still cool. I would try to clean and pick up inbetween all of this. Seems the dogs knew and would immediately soil just where I had mopped. I guess they did not know what a pee pad was today! Maybe my state of mind transferred to them and they were bothered too? Good news this weekend was that Alley (Meri and Vinnie) won Best in Show Rare Breed Puppy in TX! She is a gorgeous girl! I also found out that most vets say if Legg Perthes is genetic or injury related. Not sure if they figure it is a liability issue or what. I talked to one today that said there may be a predisposition to Legg Perthes, but it won't develop unless there is an injury to the leg. This is another reason not to let your little babies be jumping around or climbing on high areas. Well, it is after 10. I need to get everyone settled and then it will be time to feed the babies again. The vet thought Rishona might be able to take over again tomorrow. It just depends on how she is acting. If tonight is any indiction, I will be feeding again tomorrow too! Two hours sounds like a long time, but when you are trying to fit things in that two hours, it goes VERY quickly. July 16, 2010
Presley got his first vaccination today. He weighed a whopping 1 pound 7 oz at the vets' ! This is a whole three oz since Sunday! Way to GO!!!
Lee and TeTe got another romp around the front yard tonight. They loved it so much yesterday when I took pictures. Even though Emma and Michele and usually a couple of others are out there, the puppies don't seem to mind. The followed me through the door both going in and out of the house. Such big dogs! I need to get pictures of Mia and Angie. I realized this morning when I captioned puppy photos and also added TeTe to my girls' page that I did not have photos for the two newest family members. Going to start boxing up things for the garage sale. I got some boxes from my sil, she works at Valley Vet Supply. Not sure what I am going to do with all the full boxes until the garage sale, but I will find someplace to put them. I thought about putting them in the horse trailer. I already have a couple of small boxes of garage sale items in there. I did not want to fill the trailer too full in case we needed to haul the horses somewhere. I also need to get all of the tack and clothing listed somewhere since we won't need it anymore. I am not sure how or where to do it. If you know someone that is looking for some nice show equipment at a reasonable price give them my email or phone number. Most of the leather and strap goods are made by Kathy's Show Equipment. There is also a nice Harry Dabbs close contact saddle, a Connie's Custom show shirt in orange and black, smooth leather black chaps, other show shirts. Many saddle blanket in different colors, sheets, slinkies, and general horse equipment. The horses and trailer are looking for a home too. I can't miss them too much since I haven't ridden since 2005 and now Dana has moved, so she won't be able to ride at all. Not sure what I will be doing tomorrow, but the boxes are calling my name. |
